Why Is My Website Not Getting Leads? 12 Reasons and How to Fix Each (2026)
By Javed, founder of Javedify, a web design, development and SEO company in Mumbai. Last updated November 2026.
If you are asking why is my website not getting leads, the cause is almost always one of three things: not enough of the right visitors (Google cannot find you, or you attract the wrong people), visitors who arrive but do not trust you or do not know what to do next (weak call to action, long form, slow or hard-to-use mobile site), or leads that arrive and get lost (a form that does not work, no follow-up, no tracking). The fastest way to find yours is to check traffic first, then the page itself, then what happens after someone enquires.
This guide walks you through that check in plain words. You will learn how to tell whether your problem is traffic or conversion, why a website may not be getting traffic or may not be listed on Google, the 12 most common reasons a website does not generate leads and the fix for each, a 12-point checklist you can score in 15 minutes, and a 7-day plan to start fixing it. Details were checked in November 2026 against several agency and SEO guides, and where they quote statistics we say who said it and that we could not verify it.
Why Is My Website Not Getting Leads? Key Points in Short
- Check traffic first. No visitors is a visibility problem. Visitors but no leads is a conversion problem.
- Most common fixes: one clear call to action, a visible phone number, a short form, a fast mobile site and real proof of trust.
- Do not ignore follow-up. Test your forms, and make sure every enquiry reaches a phone or inbox you check.
- Track results. Without Google Analytics and Search Console you are guessing.
- Be patient with Google. A new website can take days to weeks to be indexed, and SEO takes months.
Step 1: Find Out If You Have a Traffic Problem or a Conversion Problem
What you seeWhat it usually meansWhere to look firstVery few visitorsA visibility problem: Google cannot find you or you are not ranking for searches that matterGoogle indexing, SEO, Google Business Profile, adsVisitors but no calls or formsA conversion problem: the page does not convince or guide visitorsCall to action, trust, form, speed, mobileEnquiries but no salesA follow-up or lead quality problemResponse time, lead source, your offerYou do not knowA tracking problemGoogle Analytics and Search Console
Verlua suggests that a good conversion rate for a local service business is about 3% to 5%, and that a rate below 2% likely points to significant problems. That is one agency's benchmark and not an official figure, so use it only as a rough guide, and measure your own rate first. To get a rough rate, divide the enquiries you received by the visitors you had in the same month.
Why Is My Website Not Getting Traffic? Is It Even on Google?
Before you fix design, check that Google knows your website exists. SEO.com suggests two quick checks:
- Search
site:yourdomain.comon Google. If none of your pages show, your site is not showing in Google. - Use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console. If Google cannot find a page, it is not appearing in Google.

Why Is My Website Not Generating Leads? 12 Common Reasons and Fixes
If you do have visitors, one or more of these problems is usually stopping them. The reasons and fixes below follow Verlua's guide on why a website is not generating leads and Nowoka's guide.
1. No Clear Call to Action
If visitors do not know what to do next, they leave. Give each page one main action, such as "Call now", "WhatsApp us" or "Book a free consultation". Place it where visitors see it without scrolling, use action words, and repeat it down the page.
2. Your Phone Number Is Hard to Find
Put your phone number in the header of every page and make it tap-to-call on mobile. Add a WhatsApp button if your customers use it.
3. The Enquiry Form Is Too Long
Every extra field makes people less likely to finish. Verlua cites HubSpot for the figure that each extra form field can reduce conversions by about 10%, which we could not verify. Whatever the exact number, ask only for the basics, such as name, phone and a short message, and collect the rest on the call.
4. The Website Is Slow
Visitors leave before slow pages open. Verlua says to aim for under 3 seconds, and ideally under 2 on mobile, and cites Google research that 53% of mobile users abandon sites that take more than 3 seconds, which we could not verify. Test with PageSpeed Insights, compress images and trim unused plugins. Read our guide on website speed optimization services.
5. The Website Is Not Mobile-Friendly
Small text, tiny buttons and forms that are hard to fill on a phone lose visitors. Text should be readable without zooming, buttons should be easy to tap, and nothing should need sideways scrolling. Read our guide on responsive website development.
6. There Are No Trust Signals
People do not enquire with a business they cannot check. Show real reviews, named testimonials, photos of your work and team, years in business, certificates, client logos and case studies. Do not invent any of them.
7. You Are Getting the Wrong Visitors
Traffic from searches that only want information, or from outside your service area, will not turn into leads. Target buyer-intent searches, such as a service plus a place, or a cost or hire search, and keep your Google Business Profile service area correct. A high-volume keyword that does not match buyers will not help.
8. The Copy Is Vague
If your words could describe any competitor, they persuade nobody. Say clearly what you do, who it is for, and why someone should choose you, in the first few seconds. Lead with the customer's problem and be specific about the result.
9. Weak Local SEO
If customers search "near me" or by area and you do not appear, you lose local leads. Claim your Google Business Profile, keep your name, address and phone number the same everywhere, collect reviews, name your service areas on your website and get listed in trusted local directories.
10. An Outdated Design
An old-looking website suggests an old-fashioned business. A clean layout, real photos and readable text help. If the site is very old, a redesign can be cheaper than endless fixes. Read our guide on website redesign services.
11. No Follow-Up System, or a Broken Form
Test every form and button yourself. Confirm that enquiries reach an inbox or phone you actually check, and reply fast. Verlua suggests instant form notifications, a simple CRM or tracker, auto-replies, and a clear response-time rule. Nowoka says lead response time is often about five minutes, though it says it has not verified a study behind that figure. A lead that waits a day is often lost.
12. No Tracking
Without data you are guessing. Install Google Analytics 4 with conversion events for form submissions and calls, and Google Search Console. Check traffic sources, bounce rate and conversions every month.
Score Your Website: A 12-Point Checklist
Give your website one point for each item you can honestly tick:
- My phone number is visible in the header of every page.
- The phone number is tap-to-call on mobile.
- Every page has one clear main call to action.
- My enquiry form has four fields or fewer.
- My website loads in under 3 seconds on mobile.
- My website is easy to read and use on a phone.
- I show real reviews or testimonials.
- I show real photos of my work or team.
- My Google Business Profile is claimed and complete.
- My service areas are named on the website.
- Google Analytics and Search Console are set up.
- Every enquiry reaches me quickly, and I have tested it.
Verlua says that ticking fewer than 8 of its own 12 items suggests significant conversion problems. That is one agency's rule of thumb, but if you tick fewer than 8 here, start with the unticked items.
Why Is My Website Not Working or Getting Redirected?
These are different problems from low leads, and they can cost you every lead you would have had. General checks, not a full diagnosis:
- The site does not open. Check that your domain and hosting are renewed, and ask your host if the server is down.
- Security warning in the browser. The SSL (HTTPS) certificate may have expired or may not be set up correctly.
- A broken page after an update. A plugin, theme or software update may have conflicted. A backup lets you go back.
- Unexpected redirects. This can come from a wrong redirect setting, but if visitors are sent to strange websites, your site may be hacked. Get it checked quickly.
If you are not sure, ask a professional, and make sure your site has regular backups and updates. See our guides on website maintenance services and WordPress maintenance services.
Your 7-Day Plan to Get More Leads from Your Website
DayWhat to doDay 1Install or check Google Analytics 4 and Search Console. Test every form and button, and make sure enquiries reach you.Day 2Search site:yourdomain.com, and check indexing in Search Console.Day 3Put your phone number and a WhatsApp button on every page, and set one main call to action on each page.Day 4Cut your enquiry form to the essential fields.Day 5Run PageSpeed Insights on your home page and main service page, and compress the biggest images.Day 6Add real reviews, photos of your work and a clear sentence on what you do and who it is for.Day 7Claim or update your Google Business Profile, and ask three happy customers for reviews.
Then measure for a few weeks. SEO changes can take weeks to months to show, so judge conversion fixes by enquiries and SEO fixes by impressions and rankings in Search Console.
When to Fix the Website and When to Rebuild It
- Fix it if the structure is sound and the problems are a weak call to action, a long form, slow images or missing proof.
- Rebuild or redesign it if the site is very old, built on a heavy template, hard to use on phones, or cannot be changed easily.
- Add traffic if the website converts the visitors it gets, but there are too few. SEO, Google Ads and your Google Business Profile bring more visitors.

Why Is My Website Not Getting Leads: Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my website not getting leads?
Usually because of one of three problems: too few of the right visitors, visitors who do not trust you or do not know what to do next, or leads that are lost because a form is broken or nobody follows up.
Why is my website not generating leads even with traffic?
Common reasons are no clear call to action, a hidden phone number, a long form, a slow or hard-to-use mobile site, missing trust signals and visitors who are not ready to buy.
Why is my website not getting traffic?
Your site may not be indexed, it may be new, or it may rank too low for the searches your customers use. Check site:yourdomain.com on Google and the Indexing report in Search Console.
Why is my website not listed on Google?
Common causes are a new website, a robots.txt or noindex block, a WordPress setting that discourages search engines, duplicate or thin content, or a manual action. SEO.com lists these and the fixes.
How long does it take for a new website to show on Google?
SEO.com says a new website can take a few days to a few weeks to be crawled and indexed. Ranking well takes longer, often months.
What is a good conversion rate for a website?
Verlua says about 3% to 5% is good for a local service business, and below 2% likely means significant problems. This is one agency's benchmark, so measure your own rate and improve it over time.
How many fields should an enquiry form have?
As few as possible. Name, phone and a short message are usually enough, and you can ask for details on the call.
Does website speed affect leads?
Yes. Slow pages make visitors leave before they read your offer. Test your site with PageSpeed Insights and fix the biggest problems first.
Why is my website not working or getting redirected?
Check that your domain and hosting are active and your SSL certificate is valid, and think about recent updates. If visitors are sent to unfamiliar sites, your website may be hacked, so get it checked quickly.
Do I need SEO or Google Ads to get leads?
A good website converts the visitors it gets. SEO and Google Ads bring more of them. Many businesses start with Google Ads for quick leads while SEO builds up.
Should I redesign my website to get more leads?
If the site is very old, slow or hard to use on a phone, a redesign can help. If the structure is fine, fixing the call to action, form, speed and trust signals may be enough.
Can Javedify check my website and tell me why it is not getting leads?
Yes. Book a free consultation and share your website link. We will explain what we see and what to fix first, with no pressure to buy.
